Donauinselfest

What is the Donauinselfest?

The Donauinselfest (Danube Island Festival) is a free three-day open-air music festival held on the Donauinsel in Vienna, usually in late June or early July. Founded in 1984, it features pop, rock, electronic, and Austropop acts across more than a dozen stages, attracting around three million visits over the weekend — making it one of the largest open-air festivals in the world.

Why book Closer for this event

The island itself is car-free and public transport gets extremely crowded around headline slots. Closer handles timed drop-offs and pickups at the closest access bridges, late-night returns to hotels, and combined evenings — dinner in the city, then the festival's headline act.

Donauinselfest — event dates

Every edition with a dedicated guide — dates, schedule, and chauffeur logistics. New editions are added as soon as official dates are announced. Updated March 28, 2026.

Getting to the Danube Island

Access is via the bridges between Nordbrücke and Reichsbrücke; the island itself is closed to cars. We drop off and pick up at agreed points near the Reichsbrücke or Floridsdorfer Brücke entrances — 10–20 minutes from central hotels, longer during festival peak hours.

Festival evenings without the crowds

Timed pickups after headline sets skip the U-Bahn crush. For groups, a V-Class shuttle between hotel and island runs on your schedule all evening.
